LaunchGetting started for 2008!
RouteAfter a couple of delays we managed to find a weather window to get the sails back on to Genesis. The guarantee work had just been completed with a visit from Peter Allan from Luhrs Marine. Then a follow up visit from CJ at Dickies, Bangor who rigged up the new Halyard and put the reefing lines in for us. What an effort putting the mainsail on proved to be! We scuffed the side of the boat hauling it on. And the tarpaulin we put over the sprayhood had abraded the clear (now, not so clear) plastic, as well as wearing the cotton parts. Oh well... We had made sure the boat was well provisioned - 175 bottles of beer and 12 bottles of wine. The launch by Stan went without hitch without us being present - he dumped us on the beach at low tide. So we got on and hung around for the tide. Ah, the joys of bilge keels! The engine started first time and sounded sweeter than ever after the service by ABC. We weren't in the mood for a trans-global sail so we just motored around the bay and picked up our mooring. Lessons Learned Don't take the main sail off - the risks of damaging it and the boat are greater than the hypothetical wear leaving it on the boat. Take no notice of scowling dinghy owners with their Don't use a cover for the spray hood. We might
try removing it altogether next year. |
