Victoria Dock Race

A trip to Victoria Dock with Ray Wilton as OOD, organising a race. The race was supposed to be a longer distance but was re-arranged due to the weather.  The new course was a sail to Caernarfon and a sail back the next day.  We won!

Notes

A nice collection of boats attended this race - Sarico, Genesis and Hwyll Dda. We were also joined by Dansa, Caretta, Osprey and Abraxas.

As the wind was on the nose, we all tacked up the Strait:

Genesis arrived at Victoria Dock first.  We managed a good time as we were fully reefed to No. 3 and got a good line.

That evening quite a collection of us descended on the Indian.  Derek Lumb even joined us by car:

Dinner in India

The next day very little wind was available and we more or less drifted through the Swellies with the tide.  The end point was Menai Bridge so we gave up sailing at this point.

Lessons Learned

  • Putting in more reefs than you might think are useful gives you a good line and little weather helm.
