Conwy Marina - Victualling

A trip to Conwy Marina with Derek Asquith as OOD.  A very complicated one for Glen as he was due to fly out to Arizona on Sunday.  The plan was for Llew to arrive in Conwy on Saturday with a car packed with Glen's two week supplies to Arizona, then Glen to drive to Heathrow on Sunday and Llew return on the boat.  Volcano Interuptus !

Weather

Light SW winds, calm sea, not enough wind to maintain sail at hull speeds.

Notes

Originally planned as a trip to Victoria Dock, this was altered as the Dock was closed to visitors due to work in progress there.  Derek therefore decided Conwy was the next best thing - better in a lot of ways.

We hurriedly took the lead as Llew reported in to say he was already at the marina and waiting - there was a football match on.  When we arrived our work was cut out to get Llew to Conwy for the pub, and us to Tesco for groceries.  After that, freshwater hosing to clean the winter off the boat.

Peter also turned up in the afternoon to put some rubber between the transom mounted outboard bracket and the hull.

Whilst enjoying a social onboard Abraxas, Glen had some good news in the afternoon - the flight to Tucson was cancelled!  So this meant Llew would have to take the car back after all, and Glen could ride the boat back home.

In the evening we all went to the Mulberry, the pub attached to the marina.  This pub has had consistently good food for years, but the service is now a bit lame - you have to order at the downstairs bar, and eat upstairs.  And then afterwards, the live band was very good but it was impossible to talk, even upstairs - so we all retired to Genesis.

We eventually got to bed in the early hours and enjoyed a nice lie in.

Lessons Learned

  • The Mulberry still has good food but as a venue it's a bit non-marina oriented
